Why serious Korean clinics moved past Thermage & Ultherapy
Both devices still sit in Korean clinics — and both are proven. But doctors who design protocols seriously have moved to a newer generation, built to solve what the famous names could not. Here is what they use instead, and when each one makes sense.

Every other monopolar RF device — Thermage included — delivers energy in short bursts ("pulse trains"), with cooling gas between bursts to protect the surface. The trade-off: every cooling burst also bleeds off the internal heat build-up that actually drives tightening.
Volnewmer (sold as Everesse in the US) is the one monopolar RF built on a single-pulse architecture with continuous water cooling. Heat accumulates inside while the surface stays protected — which is what makes the "dynamic technique" work: the doctor keeps the handpiece moving across the whole face, spreading heat evenly instead of stacking it in one spot.
- Choose it when your goal is evenly distributed, full-face tightening and uniform tone — no single sagging point.
XERF — concentrated depth where you need it
Same category, opposite philosophy. Every other monopolar RF runs at a single frequency (6.78 MHz). XERF adds a second, lower frequency (6 + 2 MHz) that penetrates deeper. Where Volnewmer spreads heat horizontally, XERF pushes it vertically.
That makes it the tool for targeted depth: lower face, jawline, under-chin — places where you need real penetration and strong local heat build-up for results that hold ("fixation", as doctors call it).
Shrink / Ultraformer — HIFU without the Ulthera price
HIFU works by creating thermal coagulation points (TCPs) in the SMAS layer to trigger the body's repair response. Ulthera does this. Shrink creates more TCPs per session, faster, with noticeably less pain — at a fraction of the Korean price. That combination made it near-standard for Korean patients in their 20s and 30s.
The rule that matters more than any device name
Three devices, three different roles: even full-face tightening (Volnewmer), targeted depth (XERF), affordable HIFU lifting (Shrink). A doctor who knows all three can match the device to your face — but only if you walk in describing your goal, not naming a machine.
